Regulations for Endeavours and Engagement (Views 2,209)

Still working on mechanics and rules.

How about...

Due to the rapid auto fire nature of some of the weapons we are still trying to sort out the logistics of hits and healing.

Personally I feel some sort of fudge regarding weapons could be had. Perhaps everyone has a patented personal kinetic flange shield generator. This could be a device that puts up a protective shield automatically after being hit. Thus you take the first hit, which severely wounds you and takes you down but then the shield comes into effect to protect you from further harm for a limited time. This device could use charges and as such we could use it to provide hit points of a sort. As I said, just an idea, this is all up for discussion.

Main rules

1. What you can do you can do
2. If it looks good it will probably work
3. Don't take the piss

Skills – nah don’t need them, do what you can do but subject to rule 1,2,3

Megatronomatics – Anyone coming up with a suitable prop for a megotronomatic should pretty much allow it to do what it needs to do. However steam is temperamental so such things do go wrong sometimes. Nothing too powerful or actually useful will be allowed. Rule 2, 3

Magic – I like bottled daemons and imp lights. No one really understands how these things work. Not wanting people shooting fire balls. Subject to rule 2,3

Background – still working on this, going for pretty generic Victorian Steampunk set in 1888. No space travel quite yet but very close. Apart from that any input or ideas will be considered.

First aid. Some nice steam bandages or the replacement of body parts with cogs. Tinctures and snake oil will be allowed. Major surgery will be encouraged.

How about a Virtues and Flaws system instead of a skill list. These tend to help roleplay and generate background and even give writers hooks to play with. Say upto 6 points of virtues that have to be balanced with the equal amount of flaws. Have them as +1 or +3 and -1 or -3. So a balanced 6 point character could look like this.

Example Virtue +3
"Deductive Reasoning-You have a razor sharp mind and keen observation skills. You probably wear a deer stalker and play a violin. You may ask the ref privately three questions about the adventure during the event to which the ref will reply yes,no, or not known. You can then astound your companions with a complicated chain of deductive reasoning to reveal the answer you have just learnt."

Example Virtue +3
"Trained in the esoteric arts of the Orient-You versed in an usual martial art and may with suitable flurries in a heroic martial artist type way, fight unnamed and deliver damage.

Example Flaw-1
"Bitter Rivalry- You have rival who always seems to best you, maybe it is someone close like a brother? Who ever it is you can't seem to shake them off and they always seem to crop up to rub your nose in it when you least want it.

Example Flaw -1
"Embarrassing Amateur- You have a passion for some pastime and pursue it with zeal, yet you a hopeless amateur and utterly useless at it. e.g playing the violin."

Example Flaw-1
"Pecuniaryily Embarassed- You are broke and money never seems to stay with you long, whatever you seem to do their are always more debts. Less resources for you to start the game with old chap.

Example Flaw -3
"Unspeakable degenerate- you have an unspeakable vice, that should it be known you would be excluded from polite society, hounded by the press and shunned by your fellows e.g. Opium addict.

So with a list like this I have pretty much got myself a Sherlock Holmes archetype.

The rules are there are no rules is best. I like the idea of virtues and flaws. Just take care that the flaws affect the real world. Having an enemy who never turns up is not a disadvantage.
