Sorry I havent been on the board before but I forgot my password n stuff. just to hark back to the old shield bargingand stabbing thang. For whatsits worth I dont see TOO much of a problem with it from my end, I personally am right up for a bit of epic battling and fully intend to get stuck in and just stuck at times, That said its worth rembering that some of the crew are youngsters and not as ....padded??? as the rest of usso care needs to be taken when getting into a situation that you are aware of who your fighting, I know this sounds obvious but we can all get carried away and I think this event imparticular is going to be open to that just because of the nature of the get together. I think those of us up for rough and tumble should conflab on the weekend so as to get things organised on the day.

secondly, anyone whose been on a BIC event before should be aware of the caliber of the monsters and the spirit in which the games are played. nobody gripes about hits nobody wanders off mumbling about killing that tw*t next time. the monsters are all aware and dare I say all very very good at providing what the players want, part of this is down to briefings from si and I, but mostly because they all want to have and give everyone a good time (not in a thadius and cladius way...eughhh) which is I,m sure what the event will be, Im excited, but not as excited as mark I suspect.

Finally if I can paraphrase a role play great

"its all in the roleplay guys"

chin chin

wow theres no stopping me now I have my password back woo hoo. I have been reading some of the past notices and saw the one on mages with swords n stuff. from a roleplay pov maybe a chap that could bend the powers of the lore to his own ends might foresake the use of shield and sword knowing that his body will fail him( unless kept rejuvenated by magic which also bears out my point)so would concentrate on developing his powers. also as magic has been corrupted it should be far harder to wield magic so plodding around with sword n armour is going to get in the way even more. remember guys it says in the background that folk are amazed that chaps are wielding power without using scrolls. mages now are a thing of folklore so when one pops up he's gonna get some respect from his hommes without having to carry swords and shields around as well. any bugger can carry a sword and dress up in armour(although not as stylishly as ian) I think keeping mages to daggers and staffs brings something warm and old school to the proceedings, I heartily agree that someone who does devote themselves to the ways of magic should get more mp's that somone who clanks around as well and I believe Si is altering this. but the main thing to remember is that there has to be development you dont have to do the same old thing... imagine snam has found religeon and become a priest...okay far fetched but you get tehe drift. If you remember the dragonlance chronicles(yer baby Im with it) they all meet after a few years and a couple of them are farmers one is in disgrace the magic dude has gone evil... stuff happens in between so use the rule as Si saya a frame work but by all means develop your characters, think about your own journey from then to here....or dont it might upset you you old farts.

cheers
larry

So basically are we saying that if you played a mage 20 years ago then you can play the same character but play a different class? Therefore Toby could then play a Wargrim thus getting over the sword issue. Also this would allow people to try something new if they so wished.

Not sure what everyones thoughts on this are, its been a long time, the land has changed, people change...

sort of I suppose, and we know about marks pants.

its more that the event is about fun not winning. and as for the old people change thing think of russel crowe in the quick and the dead, gunman turned preacher never to touch a gun again until...or shane when he forsakes violence only to dig his guns up at the end. I think that there is more room for that sort of thing and it might be fun...or sh*t whatever, sis my pc is up and running again so Ill get the plot to you all though most of it has been discussed on the forum...buggers.

Mr roach sir! I think a conflab at the brief would be best, don't won't to go full on (for won't of a better phrase) against someone not ready or experienced (how the f*ck do you spell it!)
perhaps we can wear carnations red= up for a bit of rough and tumble in the woods, yellow= stalker.
As has been said, its in the playing, so i'll apologise now!

Hey Mark,
I remember that adventure; old man on the path telling us to find parts of an artefact etc. It was our very first adventure. Or was it the second, or third, or last.. Hmm, perhaps all of them! :)

As for character development, mages with swords etc, I will most likely go back to the Montana of old, most powerfull mage in the known lands, etc, and "wielding" a staff. OK, so maybe I could have used a sword, maybe I still can, and do. But it's all in the roleplaying, right. There are other more able fighters out there who can wield a sword and stand in the front line and take the blows. The country needs the heros of old. They need to believe in the magic of old. Montana will put asside his sword and don the robes of a mage and bring forth fire and ice from his fingertips, and the people will be in awe once more. He will overthrow this tyrant who claims to rule Fesh, and take his rightfull place on the throne, and all will bow down and honour him!! (Hmm, getting a bit carried away there).
[ That's if the wife let's me come out to play! :) ]

*Sigh* "I never thought I'd have to wear my leather pants in anger again old friend..." that sort of thing eh? ;)

But religion's waaay out for Snam I'm afraid - maybe he's retired to run a bordello - what special skills would I have for that Mr Roach?

Spot The Pox skill - allows player to recognise that you'll pay heavily for a tumble in the hay with that fine filly?
Viagra's Ramrod skill - sort of likeBerserk or Slow Time- but with a bigger grin.

etc etc...

Hmmm

Right, I'm back from a short period of paternity leave, thanks to all those who sent good wishes.

We are going to post up the latest version of the rules in a couple of days. Anyone who has anything they would like to add or comment on should let us know now.
